About the Chef

Chef Robert "BB" Brunet, a proud Louisiana native, was born and raised in a large Cajun family as the tenth of thirteen children to Marie "Pearl" Theriot in Houma, Louisiana. His Cajun heritage runs deep, with roots tracing back to the Acadian settlers who brought their vibrant culture and bold flavors to Southern Louisiana.
Growing up in a home where the kitchen was the heart of the family, Chef BB learned early on the importance of tradition, family, and food. His love for Cajun cooking was instilled through years of family meals, where he absorbed the art of preparing authentic dishes from his mother, Momma Pearl.

After Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans in 2005, Robert, along with his wife Rebecca, made the difficult decision to relocate to Southern Colorado to rebuild their lives. It was here, at the age of 50, when most people are beginning to slow down, that he made the life-changing decision to reinvent himself.

After a long career in Information Technology, he turned his passion for cooking into a new career as a private chef, founding “The House Chef of Colorado Springs,” an in-home dining service that showcased his authentic Cajun cuisine and "Chef BB" was born.

Chef BB’s journey didn’t stop there. In 2013, he launched "Momma Pearl’s Cajun Kitchen," a celebrated restaurant that has become a beloved institution in Colorado Springs, serving up Louisiana’s rich culinary heritage. Over the past decade, he has fed nearly a quarter of a million guests and has become an advocate for the restaurant industry.

Sadly, in June of 2024, Chef BB and his wife had to make the decision to close the restaurant due to the extended economic challenges faced by businesses across the nation in the wake of the Covid pandemic.

Now an author, Chef BB’s books, including “The Beginner’s Guide to Restaurant Success” and “Use What You Got and Make a Lot,” offer insight and inspiration to aspiring chefs and entrepreneurs. His story is one of resilience, passion, and determination—a testament to the power of reinvention and the pursuit of one’s dreams, no matter the age or circumstances.
